Sarah's Story: This is a friend's story. We will call this friend Jon Doe. It all started in March of 1997. The wrongly accused Jon Doe had just turned eighteen years old. At the time, he was dating a girl who was fifteen years old. For the sake of consistency, we will call his girlfriend Jane Doe.

One day, Jane Doe's friend wrote a letter that contained information about sexual acts between Jon Doe and Jane Doe. Needless to say, this letter was discovered by a friend's father. The letter was then brought to the attention of Jane Doe's father. He was pissed and confronted his daughter.

His daughter was frightened. The first excuse that came to Jane Doe's mind was: "He made me do it. He raped me!" The two fathers immediately accompanied a police officer to Jon Doe's house. They arrested Jon Doe.

While Jon Doe was in jail, Jane's friend realized her mistake. She decided to come forward with the truth. Unfortunately, for some reason, Jon Doe's court-appointed attorney did not return her phone calls. Jon Doe was terrified. His court-appointed attorney talked him into taking a plea bargain. Jane Doe had no idea that her friend wanted to come forward with the truth.

So, here we are. It's 2008. Eleven years later. Jon Doe is still in prison. He has served nine years. He has at least two more years left to serve. Ironically, Jane Doe has know idea that Jon Doe is incarcerated. Jon and Jane actually saw each other in 1998 before Jon was sent to the big house.

If Jane Doe came forward, Jon Doe would be a free man. Jon has a ten year old daughter. He hasn't seen his daughter for eight years, almost nine. Jane Doe: if you read this, you are an adult now. You were a minor then. You will not get in trouble or be punished for telling the truth. Please come forward, Jane.
